There was a very enjoyable and successful Banquet held in honour of the
late
Marty Duffy in the Benbulben Hotel Enniscrone on Sat 17th Dec. Gaels
from all
over the County came to honour the late Marty Duffy and the glowing
tributes
paid to him and his family on the night were well deserving. Special

Special congratulations to Mairead Gonley who made history at the Sligo

and
also for the Club and local community. Mairead was warmly and
enthusiastically
welcomed to the top table by outgoing chairman Joe Queenan and incoming

John Murphy and indeed by all the County Executive members. The Club

The Intermediate have completed all their competitive fixtures for 2006
and
great thanks is due to all concerned with the team - players, managers
and
all who helped out in any way. They deserve a well earned rest as they
have
gone almost two tears continuous without a break. In 2006 there will be
a Senior
team competing in the Senior League and Championship and there will also
be
an Intermediate team competing in the Intermediate League and
Championship.
All players will be required and this will give an opportunity to
players who
may feel they are not up to the Senior team standard to come out and
play for
the Intermediate team. Well done to every one involved. Special thanks
to sponsors:
Kevin Keown - Bundoran Motors, Stephen Devaney-Heatmerchants, Gerry
Nicholson
- Connollys Bar, Tom Earley - Earleys Bar and Declan Caslin - Bord na

The Marchievicz Park Banquet held in the Radisson Hotel on Friday 18th
Nov
to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the opening of the Park was a
tremendous
success, and enjoyed by the 500 plus guests who attended. Special Guests
were
GAA President elect Nicky Brennan of Kilkenny, Joe Connolly the
victorious Galway
Hurling captain who delivered an inspirational speech 'as gaeilge' as he
accepted
the Liam Mc Carthy Cup in 1980, and Tommy Moran Connacht Council
President of
Leitrim who was a witty M.C for the night. Special congratulations to
Nancy
Mc Loughlin who was presented with a deserving award on behalf of her
late husband
Hugh. This is the first anniversary of Hugh's passing away and it was a
fitting
tribute that he was remembered at the Banquet. Hugh spent many hours in
the
Park with his machinery and giving solid advice on the developments over
the
years. Hugh's enormous contribution to the GAA at Club, Divisional and
County
level could not be achieved without the help and cooperation of his wife
Nancy
and family, to whom we are very grateful. Congratulations to club member
Brendan
Nelson who did trojan work as PRO of the Banquet committee, and who was
also
one of the first young players to play in Markievicz Park many years
ago. Also
well done to Park Committee members Tom Gallen, Seamus Cummins, Pat
Branley
and Brian Mc Gauran who have done great work in the Park development.
Finally
a sincere thanks to John Leydon who was an inspirational Chairman of the
organising
committee.

The senior team finished the season in fine style with an impressive win
over
Cloonacool to win the Benson Cup Final for the first time ever. Our lads
found
it tough to get into their stride in the first half and couldn’t pull
away from

the only
goal of the match to put Calry further ahead. Calry had Stephen
Heraughty to
thank as he pulled off a great save from a Cloonacool penalty. Our backs

The U-14 girls final was played in Tourlestrane Sunday morning in
beautiful
sunshine with eventual victory for the Calry girls, Calry had most of
the possession
in the early part of the first half but only managed to get one point
from five
attempts. St farnans then got into their stride and Calry found
themselves 1-4
to 2 points down Carly did manage a goal from Amber Lynch and another
point
before half time but a goal by St Farnans just at half time left the
score 1-3
to 2-4. Calry came out in the second half looking more determined and 2
further
goals by Aisling Gilroy and one by Amber Lynch put us ahead, St Farnans
did
respond with 2 points but in the final stages Calry were the stronger
team with
good points from Niamh Deehan and Aoife Nicholoson and a goal near the
end from
amber lynch to run out eventual winners 5-5 to 2-6. Well done to
everyone involved
with the girls team.
The U-11 team put on a good performance to edge out Drumcliffe/Rosses
Point
on Saturday last in Hazelwood. The team made a poor start and wasted a
number
of good chances. The half time score was Drumcliffe/Rosses Point 2-2
Calry/St
Josephs 1-2.The introduction of Michael Cryan at half time steadied the
defence
and a couple of other switches helped to exert more pressure on the
Drumcliffe/Rosses
Point defence. Luckily Calry/St Josephs improved their shooting and
scored 1-5
in the second half. Drumcliffe/Rosses Point scored 0-4 in this half to
leave
the final score Calry St/Josephs 2-7 Drumcliffe/Rosses Point 2-6.A big
improvement
is required for the remaining matches. Next match is away to

Intermediate
The Intermediate team
created more history last Saturday as they qualified for the Connaught Intermediate
Club Final for the first time ever. They struggled mightily to overcome
a well organised, fit, and determined Dromahair team in Marchievicz
Park, in front of an enthusiastic crowd. This was a game of four halves,
as it took extra time to separate two very committed teams. The game
itself was very exciting with the result in doubt up to the second
final whistle. The intensity of the play never waned as both sets of
players tried hard to claim the prize of a place in the Connaught Final.
Scores were difficult to get as the tackling and defensive work was of
the highest order. Our team were lucky to get an equalising score at the
end of normal time. Up to the final two minutes of extra time it looked
as if it would take a replay to decide the eventual winners, but we got
a couple good scores to edge ahead and win the game.
